Message from the President
Welcome to the website
for Highland County Retired Teachers Association. Highland County is the home of the oldest courthouse still in
use in Ohio and Southern State Community College.
The HCRTA was formed in 1971 and chartered by the National Retired Teachers Association August 6, 1974. We have
around 100 members with attendance at chapter meetings running at 50 to 60.
All retired educators are encouraged to become members of HCRTA. Most members are retirees
of the Highland County Schools. We have some members who are retirees from school districts outside of Highland
County.
We meet four times a year for luncheon meetings. Our programs are designed to
promote fellowship and to inform members about issues of importance to retirees, such as health benefits, pensions, current
legislation. Chapter members are involved in community service and volunteer work. Our officers and committee
members attend area meetings in order to stay in touch with the latest developments and report back to the chapter.
This is a busy group of retired teachers. The 2009 Volunteer
Service Survey revealed a total of 5,871 hours. More
information on our volunteer service is on "Our Purpose" page. I am sure many more
hours of service have been given to our communities by our members.
Remember Where's
Waldo? Have you found our treasurer, Kathy Levo, on the summer edition of the ORTA Quarterly?
